An anomaly in the rural county of Suffolk, The Long Shop Museum explores the Industrial Revolution in Britain and the history of manufacturers Richard Garrett & Sons.

Based in Leiston, Suffolk, the museum is home to an eclectic collection of artefacts relating to the Industrial Revolution. Featuring steam engines, sickles, guns and even dry-cleaning machines, many items on display are over 200 years old.

Other items tell the story of the Garrett family - Leiston manufacturers of agricultural machinery and steam engines - including objects relating to the pioneering physician Elizabeth Garrett, who established the first hospital in Britain where only women were appointed to its medical staff.

Housed in the only remaining part of Leiston Works, the historic site encompasses eight buildings, with a programme of temporary exhibitions and events that include railway shows, beer festivals, flings and much more.
