Nestled in the beautiful Whitaker Park in Lancashire, The Whitaker is a hidden haven of contemporary art and culture.
As well as fascinating nature and natural history galleries, the museum has a rolling programme of exciting exhibitions, showcasing local, national and international contemporary art. And there is a busy programme of film screenings, activities and heritage tours on offer too.
The chefs at the Whitaker's Bar and Kitchen restaurant whip up fantastic meals at all times of day, with particular highlights being delicious Sunday roasts and homemade cakes. With seating outside, striking views across the Rossendale countryside while you eat or stop for a coffee are a welcome bonus.
The museum’s collections include intriguing artefacts relating to natural and social history, stunning paintings and even work in stained glass. Plus, there are lots of activities aimed at children and families to keep little art lovers thoroughly entertained.
