Victoria Gallery & Museum
The Victoria Gallery & Museum holds an assortment of curiosities from the 120-year history of the University of Liverpool, and a significant collection of fine art.
Housed within the impressive red-brick Victoria Building, this museum offers a wide range of exhibitions, from art and history to science and natural history.
Diverse art collection
Alongside interesting temporary exhibition, you can also explore the gallery’s permanent, including a wide range of artwork, from classic paintings and sculpture to contemporary pieces. Notable works include pieces by Joseph Wright of Derby, JMW Turner, Lucien Freud and one of only three examples of Squares with Two Circles by Barbara Hepworth in existence.
Historical artefacts
Discover the University of Liverpool's heritage through exhibits that delve into its history, scientific discoveries, and medical advancements. See work by nineteenth-century wildlife artist and naturalist John James Audubon.
Guided tours and workshops
Join in one of the weekly free guided tour and gain a fascinating insight into the history of the Victoria Building and its collections. If you’re feeling creative you could sign up for one of the workshops on offer that take place in the museum’s Learning Suite.
Family-friendly activities
The Victoria Gallery & Museum often organises events and activities specifically designed for families, including workshops, talks, and children's trails. Once a month the museum shows free family films in the spectacular Leggate Lecture Theatre.
If you get a bit peckish, pop in to the museum’s eatery, the Waterhouse Café, which is named after Alfred Waterhouse who designed the distinctive building, in which the museum sits, in 1888.
