Wallington
With a National Art Pass you get
Dating from 1688, Wallington is a grand estate in Northumberland. Inside the historic house, you'll find ceramics, paintings, dolls' houses, needlework and other curiosities.
Owned and managed by the National Trust since the 1940s, Wallington is a popular destination, offering a blend of history, nature, and family-friendly activities. The house, once the ancestral home of the liberal-minded Trevelyan dynasty, is set within a tranquil landscape of lawns, lakes, woodland and a beautiful walled garden.
Historic house
The estate's centrepiece is the Grade I listed Wallington House. Step back in time and explore the beautifully preserved interiors, adorned with antique furniture, paintings, and ceramics. Don't miss the Central Hall, featuring pre-Raphaelite murals by William Bell Scott that celebrate Northumbria. In the Parlour you will find William Morris wallpaper and paintings by Turner and Burne-Jones.
The Dolls' House room
A delight for children and adults alike is the collection of several homes in miniature. Dating back as far as 1835, the collection is topped off by 'Hammond House', with 36 fully furinshed rooms, each fitted with electric lights.
Explore outdoors
Wander the walled garden with its stone water feature, ornamental trees and pond. The wider estate boasts extensive parkland and woodland, perfect for exploring on foot, or alternatively hire a bike and follow a cycle trail. Keep an eye out for local wildlife like red squirrels and otters.
