Wesley's Chapel and The Museum of Methodism

London
Free to all

Located in the crypt of John Wesley's 18th-century chapel, the The Museum of Methodism charts the movement's history and its impact on British society.

These three closely linked sites in London offer a fascinating insight into the life and work of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. The house, where John Wesley lived for over a decade stands next to the chapel and is furnished in its original Georgian style. Both are Grade I listed buildings and now link to a museum in the Chapel Crypt, which tells the history of Methodism from John Wesley to the present day.

John Wesley’s House

Built in 1779, it is now one of London’s finest surviving examples of a small Georgian house. Wesley lived in the house between 1779-91, and today you can see his furniture and belongings on display there. These include his electrical machine, his study chair and his Prayer Room, considered by Methodists around the world to be the Power House of Methodism.

The Museum of Methodism

Learn about the origins and development of Methodism, as well as the lives of John Wesley, his brither Charles and other important Methodists through objects, documents and paintings. Discover how missionaries braved the journey to new countries overseas to spread their beliefs.
