The Canterbury icon has been welcoming visitors for over a century since it opened in 1906. Explore the 600 year old Tower and discover the history of Kent's cathedral city and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Local history
The museum houses a fascinating collection of artefacts and exhibits, including displays on Roman Canterbury, the medieval city, and the Canterbury Tales. Permanent displays cover four themes, City Wars, Crime & Punishment, Westgate Through History and Magna Carta.
Get out of jail
Between 1453 and 1869 it served as the city prison and visitors can observe the turret cell-chambers with their manacles. You can plan your getaway from the former city jail, as it is the setting for a number of themed Escape Room experiences. Booking is essential.
The Tower
One of the highlights of the Westgate Towers Museum & Viewpoint is the opportunity to climb to the top of the towers for breathtaking views of Canterbury. From the observation platform, visitors can admire the city's historic buildings, including the iconic Canterbury Cathedral and the picturesque River Stour.
