Free to all

Housed in a Grade II listed Victorian industrial building, Weston Museum is home to the North Somerset Collections and work of regional and national significance.

The museum was reopened in 2017 after major redevelopment and portrays the history of Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area from prehistoric times to the present day. Permanent collections managed and curated by South West heritage are spread over five galleries, plus there is a temporary exhibition space, a reconstruction of a 1900s cottage and a café.

Local history

Explore the museum's collection of artefacts, documents, and photographs that tell the story of Weston-super-Mare. See the tools and treasures left behind by ancient inhabitants from the Stone Age. Follow Weston’s development from small fishing village to a seaside resort, and engage with interactive displays that bring history to life.

Local artworks

View beautiful sculptures, artwork, including landscapes and portraits by well known artists. You can also find snapshots and souvenirs from the resort’s heyday.

Clara’s Cottage

Step back in time and explore a beautifully preserved Victorian cottage. Named after the cottage’s resident from 1901-52, Clara Payne, it contains the original kitchen dresser and items donated by local people. Keep an eye out for the collection of antique toys.

Did you know?…

The temporary exhibition space, William Mable Gallery is named after the founder of the museum. Mable was a shoemaker who moved to Weston-Super-Mare from London and set up the original museum in 1861.
