Founded in 1901, the Whitechapel Gallery in London exhibits modern and contemporary art and is known for showcasing emerging artists.
This renowned art gallery located in the East End of London is a vibrant and accessible space that showcases cutting-edge art from both established and emerging artists. Whether you are an art enthusiast or looking for a unique cultural experience, Whitechapel Gallery is a must-visit on London’s contemporary art trail.
Changing exhibitions
The gallery houses nine exhibition spaces and regularly hosts a variety of exhibitions featuring diverse artistic mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installation art. These exhibitions often explore contemporary themes and issues, providing opportunities to engage with thought-provoking works, and get a first look at pieces by emerging artists.
Support under represented artists
The gallery is committed to showing under-represented, under-served artists, especially women and people of colour, and to present provocative artworks that expand thinking around the current key socio-political issues.
The Foyle Reading Room
On the first floor is a dedicated public space for research, with a growing selection of publications relating to artists who have exhibited at the gallery over the years.
Events and activities
Whitechapel Gallery organises a varied programme of events throughout the year including talks, films, music events, workshops, and activities for children and families. Browse the bookshop or, on Thursdays attend Whitechapel Lates, a relaxed after-hours chance to see the exhibitions for free.
