Designated as being of national significance, Wiltshire Museum houses the best Bronze Age collections in the country, including material from Stonehenge and Avebury.
Housed in Grade II listed Georgian and Victorian buildings in the historic market town of Devizes, the Wiltshire Museum is a great place to spend a few hours exploring the archaeology, history and environment of the region. The Museum is open throughout the year and in addition to the permanent galleries offers a research library, art collection and a variety of events, lectures and special exhibitions for all ages.
Discover Wiltshire's history
Learn about the county's Roman occupation, and medieval and modern history through fascinating exhibits including Roman coins, Saxon jewellery, and Medieval pottery. The Telling Wiltshire’s Story display recreates 500,000 years of the county's history through cutting-edge graphics and reconstructions.
Prehistoric treasures
At Wiltshire Museum you will find the largest collection of Early Bronze Age gold ever put on public display in England. You can also see award-winning displays featuring 500 Stonehenge period objects, the Bush Barrow lozenge and treasures worn by chieftains and shamans who held their ceremonies at the famous stone circle.
Activities for children
As well as lots of hands-on and interactive exhibits, the museum organises workshops and activities that are fun and educational for all ages. In addition to events in the school holidays, there are also regular Saturday clubs for different age groups, from Curious Kids sessions for pre-school age, through to Young Curators for pre-teens.
