Art Funded by you

A View in the Basses-Alpes

Joseph Mallord William Turner, 1835

Herbert A Powell bequeathed over 140 paintings to 7 museums in 1950 and 1968. Under the term of Powell's will, his son Laurence Powell retained a life interest in four further pictures. Two of these came to the Art Fund during Laurence Powell's lifetime, and on his death in July 1973 the two remaining drawings followed, of which this is one. These have now been presented to the Victoria and Albert Museum.
