This watercolour depicts the proclamation of the Queen as Empress of India at Delhi on January 1st, 1877. It was part of a collection of 90 works bequeathed to 4 museums in the UK and 2 museums in New Zealand by the late Sir Leonard Woolley through the Art Fund in 1961.
