Angels Escourting Lot and His Family from Sodom

Johann Konig, 1610–1642

© National Galleries of Scotland

Konig was a follower of Adam Elsheimer, who had developed a type of small-scale and highly wrought 'poetic' landscape painting that was to exercise a profound influence on the development of landscape in the 17th century in Italy and Northern Europe. This purchase was made in honour of long keepership of Keith Andrews.
