Art Funded by you

Blackout (3/3)

Eva Rothschild, 2007

© The artist

This sculpture exemplifies RothschildÂ’s best three-dimensional work and takes the form of a freestanding triangular form coupled with an incongruous and rather ominous title. Rothschild frequently uses archetypal forms such as the pyramid and sphere which have mystical or utopian connotations. Much of her work alludes to New Age spiritualism as well as to abstract sculpture of the 1960s. This work, by one of the most highly regarded artists of her generation, keeps Southampton's collection up to date with recent developments in contemporary practice. This work was purchased with additional funding from the David and Liza Brown Bequest Fund through the Art Fund.
