Cabinet in Flemish style

This richly carved inlaid cabinet in the Flemish 17th century style was made just three years before Gillows of Lancaster amalgamated with Messrs. Waring of Liverpool. It therefore represents the last phase of independently produced furniture designs. The primary source of inspiration appears to be a rare pattern book of furniture designs printed in Antwerp in 1630. The cabinet is one of the finest examples of its kind produced at this phase in the history of the company and the first one of this genre to be acquired by Judges' Lodgings.
