Camber-Esker Vessel

As part of the celebrations to mark its 50th birthday in 2021, the Crafts Council has invited a panel of distinguished makers to each nominate a new acquisition for its national collection.

The acquisition of 12 works by 11 makers has been supported by Art Fund. They are Wellpappe Bracelet by David Bielander (nominated by Caroline Broadhead, cost £5,000); Camber-Esker Vessel by Sara Flynn (nominated by Matt Smith, cost £3,600); Coat Rack by Max Frommeld (nominated by Michael Marriott, cost £3,200); Unnecessaries by Eri Funazaki and Danny Flynn (nominated by Angela James, cost £2,700); Caiaphas by Rozanne Hawksley (nominated by Michael Brennand-Wood, cost £2,500); Amulet by Kate Haywood (nominated by James Maskrey, cost £1,200); Rustic Stool by Mark Laban (nominated by Ineke Hans, cost £4,725); Craft Kills by Freddie Robins (nominated by the artist, cost £8,500); Suitcase Foundry by Will Shannon (nominated by John Grayson, cost £7,200); Golden Heart Ring by Castro Smith (nominated by Esna Su, cost £2,000); Large Cup with Handle and Cup with Handle on a Floating Ground by Julian Stair (nominated by Simone ten Hompel, cost £21,600 and £4,050 respectively).

These new acquisitions have been selected to reflect the range and diversity of contemporary craft practice in Britain today. They will all feature in ‘The Maker’s Eye’, a show of work from the Crafts Council Collection staged to mark the body’s 50th birthday.
