Chelsea Old Bridge

Peter De Wint, 1800–1849

This picture shows Chelsea Old Bridge and the Thames after storm clouds have passed over. There is only just time for the calm water to reflect the blue sky, for already the clouds and the old shot-tower at the other end of the bridge are rosy with sunset, and the houses throw a deep shadow over the river bank.
