Christ and the Woman of Samaria
Giovanni Lanfranco, 1625–1628

The composition has been known since the beginning of the 19th century from a somewhat similar version in the Galleria Nazionale di Capodimonte at Naples, attributed to Giuseppe Cesari. It now seems that this work is an old copy or studio repetition of the Lanfranco work.
