Art Funded by you

Classical Landscape

John Wootton, 1700–1765

Classical landscape with figures and an ox-cart. Wootton was the first important English artist to reflect the ideas of painters such as Gaspard Poussin and Salvator Rosa, and this example of his work is a desirable acquisition for the Whitworth Art Gallery, whose Committee had recently decided to purchase oil paintings directly connected with its existing collections.
