
The Peter and Iona Opie Collection of Children's Literature. The aim was to assemble highlights, works with a story behind them such as presentation copies. The books include first texts of the classics of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, harlequinades, drawing books, paper-doll books, miniature ones and books on games. Includes over 12,000 bound volumes, 1100 chapbooks, battledores, & card covered toy books, c.4000 comics, magazines, & penny dreadfuls. Illustration shows Walter Crane's 'My pretty maid'.
