Costume designs for 'The Wallace'
Audrey Cruddas, 1912–1979

This collection of 8 designs for the characters in 'The Wallace' adds to the 2 Cruddas designs already in the Theatre Collection. Audrey Cruddas became one of the leading modern theatre designers of the post war period. In the 1950s she moved to Great Bardfield where she became involved with the dynamic art community which included: John Aldridge, Edward Bawden, and Walter Hoyle. 'The Wallace' by Sydney Goodsir Smith was performed at the Assembly Hall in the Edinburgh Festival in 1960. This is part of a gift of works by Joan Hurst to many museums and galleries in 2009 and 2010.
