Art Funded by you

Declaration half crown

Unknown artist, 1644

This is a rare coin from the mint in Exeter minted during the Civil War. It differs from most of the coins produced in the mint in that instead of bearing the Royal Arms of England on its reverse, it carries an abbreviation of the Declaration of Wellington, made by Charles I in 1642 at Wellington in Shropshire. There are only eight of such coins extant.
