Art Funded by you

Der Jahrmarkt. Der Ausrufer (Selbstbildnis)

Max Beckmann, 1921

© DACS 2002

Originally produced as one of a series of drypoints in the portfolio Jahrmarkt or Fair. This work is an incisive and striking self-portrait study. Both in an artistic and psychological sense, Beckmann has placed himself at the heart of the fair, characterising himself as Der Anrufer, or circus-crier, cynically inviting new audiences to sample the world of the fair with its seedy, violent undertones.
