Double-manual harpsichord
Francis Coston, 1725
The quality of painting on the soundboard, a richly decorative arrangement of flowers, birds and foliage, makes the instrument a fine example of a British decorated harpsichord. It is almost certain that Handel knew Coston, and played on his instruments, a rare connection between Handel and a contemporary harpsichord maker, and one which gives this instrument even greater musicological and musical interest.
