Design for the Mattei Catafalque; a monument with a pyramid of candles surmounted by a flaming torch, an inscribed tablet below flanked by two Roman soldiers. Part of an album of drawings belonging to Lord James Cavendish MP (d 1741), son of the second Duke of Devonshire (1665-1729), founder of the great collection of drawings at Chatsworth. The collection of drawings form an interesting relic of the great age of collecting in England.
