Drinking Cups quinomi (set of 5)

Kado Yui, 2011

© The artist

The Oriental Museum possesses a fine collection of historic lacquer (Chinese, Burmese and Japanese), but no examples of contemporary Japanese lacquer work. These cups are excellent examples of beautiful yet utilitarian objects – a marriage of function and form. The maker is an up-and-coming artist, who (as so often in Japan), is following in the footsteps of his renowned father, Kado Isaburo. Possession of a set of 5 pieces will facilitate conservation by allowing us to rotate objects on display. Presented by the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
