Equestrian statuette of the Duke of Cumberland
Sir Henry Cheere, c. 1746–1770

Equestrian statuette of William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721-1765), third son of George II, then Prince of Wales, as he appeared around 1745. It seems likely to date from 1745, around the time of the Duke's victory over Prince Charles Edward Stuart, Bonnie Prince Charlie, at Culloden, and the subsequent punitive campaign in the Highlands which earned him the name of 'Butcher'.
