The cabinet is made from various components of Oriental lacquer. The upper fall-front panel incorporates the front of a Japanese lacquer cabinet of circa 1660 with European mounts and Japanese mounts re-used from the lower part. The sides are made up from panels of 18th century Chinese lacquer framed by Louis XIV style mouldings. The lower part is essentially another Japanese cabinet. This work was acquired with assistance from the Wolfson Foundation.
