Figure of a Mourning Woman

John Michael Rysbrack, 1740

Study for the monument to dramatist and Poet Laureate, Nicholas Rowe and his daughter, Charlotte Fane, erected in Poet's Corner, Westminster Abbey. Commissioned by Rowe's widow and it is she who is represented weeping with an open folio on her knee, and another closed under her foot. Neo-Classical drapery.
