Figure representing Hope

Unknown artist, 1800–1900

Carved wooden figure of Hope with an anchor. An Ionic capital frames the head. A caryatid which probably would have originally supported furniture. This is a 19th century copy of 17th century non-memorial sculpture. Part of a bequest to three museums by Mrs Suzanne King through the Art Fund in 1992 and 1993.
