Free Essence 6

Niyoko Ikuta, 2009

© Niyoko Ikuta

This work was purchased as part of Art Fund Collect at the Craft Council's international fair Collect. Art Fund Collect as a competitive challenge where shortlisted curators of public collections had just one hour to choose an object for their museum or gallery's permanent collection, ahead of private collectors. The V&A was among the ten shortlisted institutions and this work was purchased outright by the Art Fund. This twisted, spiralling object consists of thin sheets of plate glass layered to trap the light.
