Girandole

James Gibbs, 1725

The only piece of domestic furniture designed by James Gibbs to be identified. Possibly made by John Gumley. The original bevelled octagonal mirror plate is framed by a broad moulded surround enriched by acanthus, the cresting centres rest on a fronded shell with husk pendants; the apron retains the original cast and chased candle arms.
