The horn blower was produced in the kingdom of Benin, part of Nigeria. He wears a helmet, leopard's tooth necklace and kilt with a side bustle to the left and stands in the foursquare position, characteristic of most Benin sculptures. This object was part of a large and varied collection of 30 works of ethnographic art, formed by W. O. Oldman, which the Art Fund presented to the nation on account of its 'exceptional merit'.
