Art Funded by you

Ladywood

Christiane Baumgartner, 2010

Baumgartner has an eye for the unexpected and the nuances of movement and change in the contemporary environment. Ladywood in Birmingham is characterized by a canal system used for transport by small factories and companies in the past. The woodcut diptych depicts a ripple in the reflection of a railway bridge in the canal just a few seconds after a boat has passed by. The video shows the quiet appearance of the canal interrupted by the sound of three moving objects – bicycle, boat and train. Birmingham and Walsall art galleries are working together to build up a collection exploring the metropolis and urban environment under the Art Fund International scheme. Presented by the Art Fund through Art Fund International.
