Leonora

The title of the installation comes from an encounter between Skaer and the ninety-year-old surrealist artist, Leonora Carrington, who was visited by the artist at her home in Mexico City in 2006. Consisting of four elements, a substantial drawing, a short, silent 16mm film and two wooden three dimensional forms, 'Leonora' invites the viewer into an uncertain and somewhat irrational world of past and present, presence and absence, corporeal and non-corporeal. The artist lives and works in Glasgow and therefore the Hunterian is particularly pleased to have been able to acquire this installation which is one of the most significant works in the developing practice of an artist with a growing international reputation.
