Miniature edition of Mrs Cameron's Photographs from Life
Julia Margaret Cameron, 1869
This album is one of two albums Cameron put together for her son Hardinge Hay Cameron. It contains 112 reduced cartes-de-visite sized albumen prints of her larger works consisting of studies of great men to tableaux vivants, family portraits, literary scenes and religious images. The sequencing and subtle juxtaposition suggest Cameron considered all her photographs to enjoy equal status. Cameron produced two different styles of miniature albums. This album is the second style where the images are mounted directly onto the album pages. The National Media Museum already has the first miniature edition where the images are mounted as cartes and slipped into the album pages.
