Art Funded by you

Odalisque Couchée

Edouard Manet, 1832–1883

The work shows a somewhat dishevelled Middle Eastern girl lying on her side, her head propped up on one hand, with her sultry gaze directly engaging the viewer's eye, in much the same way as Manet's more famous Olympia does. One of two works on paper which represent the final items received by the Art Fund from the bequest of Mary Edmonds.
