This jug was made on one of the Greek islands, probably Skyros. It is one of only a very small group of similar pieces and the first example to enter a British collection. The decoration of this vase combines silhouetted winged horses in a sub-Geometric style and filling ornaments with a pair of cocks on the neck in the so-called black-figure technique.
