Pair of six-fold screens

T Mitsuoki, 1616–1691

The screens are fine examples of the Tosa School which painted mainly for the Imperial Court in Kyoto. They illustrate the Genjii Monogatari, the famous 10th century romance, which was one of the most popular sources of subject matter in Japanese painting.
