Full length portrait of the playwright David Hare (born 1947). Rego assumed the role of director for the work and suggested that Hare stared contemplatively into the distance with his right hand over his heart in a dramatic devotional gesture. There is a suggestion of a play or a performance taking place but the meaning is unclear. The lamb and crook could be a veiled reference to St. John the Baptist and a theatrical mask lies on the floor.
