Half-length portrait. The sitter wears a black jacket and white shirt with lace collar and cuffs; his right hand is raised to rest on his stomach. Sir Basil Dixwell was a notable and wealthy landowner who, between 1635 and 1638 built Broome Park, near Canterbury. This work was acquired with assistance from the Wolfson Foundation.
