Portrait of Wright Thomas Squire and His Sister Charlotte on a Black Pony
Nathan Theodore Fielding, 1795

This picture shows Wright Thomas Squire and his sister Charlotte, aged about twelve and four respectively, in front of the family home, Bridge House. The Squires were a Peterborough family who derived their income from the river as boat owners and grain merchants. By pointing towards his house, the boy is indicating the family's professional and social status.
