River Bungay

The intrusion of plastic bottles into this unassuming wetlands scene brings a contemporary touch to this landscape. Edwards employs the techniques of 19th-century photographers to create seductive landscapes of East Anglia, an area where he has spent most of his adult life. Working with a large format camera, high tripod and tall ladder, he captures places of unassuming beauty. River Bungay was commissioned for an exhibition of Gainsborough landscapes at the Holburne Museum in Bath, and EdwardsÂ’s use of a light box to suffuse the scene with light is a contemporary interpretation of GainsboroughÂ’s radiant technique.
