Saint George: Memorial to Lt. Francis L. Mond RFA RAF

Sir George Frampton, 1918

Saint George stands in full armour, holding a shield and a staff with a banner but his head is bowed in mourning for Francis Mond, an RAF lieutenant aged 22 who was killed in an air fight over Northern France on 15 May 1918. The banner obverse: badge of the RAF within a laurel wreath bearing the motto: Per Ardua ad Astra; reverse: badge of the Australian Commonwealth Forces within a laurel wreath bearing the motto 'Advance Australia'.
