Brandon Logan’s delicately constructed paintings are made using warps of string, flooded and fused with acrylic colours.
In some pieces the layers of string are cut away, exposing the history of the piece. This unique process, Logan has explained, emerged from his desire to make work using ‘something more permeable than a traditional canvas’. Salt Pig comes from his most recent group of paintings.
Born in Aberdeen, Logan grew up in the Orkney Islands, where he currently lives. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art and graduated in 2019.
Salt Pig enters the collection at Pier Arts Centre, where it resonates with the strong holdings of work by British Modernist artists, including Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, and with the work of fellow artists from the Orkney Islands such as Sylvia Wishart and Margaret Tait.
