Scrymgeour snuff mull

Unknown artist, 1725

Snuff mull of baluster shape with hinged lid. The Scrymgeour coat of arms impaling Maitland were engraved circa 1820 over the original engraving, probably initials, within a shield from circa 1725. The Scrymgeour arms consist of a lion rampant holding a broadsword; they are impaling Maitland to commemorate the marriage of Henry Scrymgeious-Wedderburn, 7th Earl of Dundee to Mary Turner Maitland in 1793.
