Semper Eadem: Familiar Interiors of Leicester

Maxine Beuret, 2007–2008

This series of 30 photographs and a DVD of video shorts and interviews is called ‘Semper Eadem’ after Leicester’s City motto (‘Always the Same’). The series formed the core of a special installation of photography and video exhibited at the museum in 2008. Maxine’s photographs have a special presence, showing how the past is brought into the present through the familiarity and minutiae of interiors, yet against a backdrop of a city confounding its motto by undergoing profound change.
