Signs and Wonders

Edmund de Waal, 2009

This is a commission for a site specific installation with 450 porcelain pots by de Waal arranged in rhythmical groupings on a high-level lacquer-red shelf running the entire circumference of the galleryÂ’s dome. Both striking and exquisitely beautiful, the installation will complement and enhance the monumental architecture of the space. Visible from the Grand Entrance of the Museum through an opening in the galleryÂ’s floor, the installation will be a landmark commission that both celebrates the collection and marks the occasion of the opening of the new Ceramics Galleries at the V&A in September 2009.
