Silva: or, a Discourse of Forest-Trees

The full title is 'Silva or a Discourse of Forest-Trees and the Propagation of Timber in his Majesty's Dominions as it was delivered in the Royal Society on the 15th Day of October, 1661. Upon Occasion of certain Queries propounded to that illustrious Assembly, by the Honourable the Principal Officers and commissioners of the Navy.' This work was published in several editions. This work is part of a collection of 45 works bequeathed by Ison to 10 public collections. Ison was trained as an architect and later became an architectural historian: his passion for classical architecture was reflected in his books on Georgian Buildings of Bath and his work as Architectural editor for the ongoing series 'Survey of London' which he worked on between 1957 and 1970.
