Spes is an allegorical figure. This drawing is one of two watercolours by Sir Edward Burne-Jones which have recently been copied for stained glass windows presented to the little church belonging to, and situated in the grounds of, Hotel Cristina, Algeciras. The foundation of this church was laid in the early 1890s by the late Lady Faringdon, then Mrs. Alexander Henderson.
