The Adoration of the Magi
Giorgio Vasari, c. 1567

This work is a small-scale replica of a large altarpiece begun by Vasari in Florence in the summer of 1566 for the newly elected Pope Pius V. It was probably painted before the altarpiece was transported to Rome. Research by Rick Scorza has established that this panel was almost certainly painted for Vasari's close friend Vincenzo Borghini who had a liking for replicas of well-known works.
